2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
¾ cup softened butter — (1 ½ sticks)
¾ cup granulated sugar
¾ cup packed brown sugar — firmly packed
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 eggs
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
1 cup chopped nuts — optional


  1. Pre-heat oven to 375°
  2. Combine flour, baking soda, and salt in a small bowl and set aside. In a large bow using an electric mixer beat softened butter, sugars, and vanilla until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Add chocolate chips and nuts (if desired).
  3. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown. Let stand for 2 minutes then remove to wire racks to cool completely.
